On-grid, hybrid or off-grid solar: questions for your installer

Choose a system around your property, connection and backup needs. Ask the installer to explain what will happen during normal use and during an outage.

01

Explain the three choices

An on-grid proposal centres on a grid-connected system. A hybrid proposal combines solar with a compatible battery arrangement. An off-grid proposal must be designed around operating independently. Ask for a diagram showing the exact arrangement proposed for your property.

02

Make backup requirements clear

Name the circuits and appliances you want to keep running. Ask which are included, how they are separated and what operating limits apply. Do not assume every solar installation provides backup.

03

Compare complete packages

Compare equipment models, protection, mounting, wiring, commissioning and battery scope. Ask for separate panel, inverter and workmanship warranty documents and who handles a claim.

04

Check connection paperwork

Ask what connection paperwork the installer will assist with and what remains your responsibility. Obtain current written requirements from the relevant provider before relying on an export arrangement.

Keep your decisions together.

Keep approved samples, finishes and any substitutions in a written selection record.
